WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

Our simple certification process will guide you the rest of the way.

    • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning

    • A 2.5 minimum cumulative GPA or better or a 2.5 GPA in last 60 semester hours

    • A minimum of 12 semester credit hours in the subject-specific content area for the certification sought, unless certification sought is for mathematics or science then 15 semester credit hours are needed.

    • Pass TX PACT (only if needed)

    • Pass a critical thinking exam with a 45 or better

    • Submit application with an official transcript with

    • The TOEFL-IBT (Test of English as a Foreign
      Language-Internet Based Test Code B241) applies to candidates graduated from another country. A minimum score of 26-Speaking, 22-Listening,22-Reading, and a 21 on Writing.

  • COMPLETE INSTITUTE TRAINING:  150 HOURS MUST BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO TEACHING

    • Pass content exam (TExES)

    • 50 clock hours of field experience
      (25 hours must be interactive)

    • Complete 150 hours prior to teaching

    • Apply for a teacher position

    • Conduct a criminal background check

    • Begin internship (1 year, 180-day assignment) or

    • Clinical teaching assignment

    • Must complete remaining 120
      program hours (coursework & training)

    • Must pass TExES PPR exam or edTPA

    • Must successfully completed internship

    • Apply for Standard Certification
